Venturing Crew 51

Dear Leaders and Parents,

            Welcome to Venturing Crew 51.  You are about to embark on a great adventure filled with exciting activities for you and your teen.

            Venturing is almost entirely youth-led and youth-run, so sometimes activities may appear to be a little less than professionally run.  This is the only way our Venturers will learn to lead and take responsibility. Our adult leaders are there to prevent true disaster, but we will let activities fail occasionally so our youth leaders can learn and profit from their mistakes.

            Because the purpose of Venturing is to form responsible and caring adults, we need your help in helping them meet their responsibilities and commitments.  It is important that your Venturer keep track of the things he/she has committed to.  I encourage you to put Venturing activities on your family calendar and remind your Venturer to check that calendar. We understand cancellations are sometimes necessary, but please have your Venturer let us know as soon as possible if this is necessary.  Otherwise we waste money on food and campsite reservations we didn’t need.

            One of the major means of communication we use is e-mail, so please make sure we have a current address for both you and your Venturer.  A current calendar will be  posted on the Troop51 web site.  Another way we communicate is through the monthly parent-leader meeting during the first Crew meeting each month.  After bringing your Venturer, please stay for the meeting and find out the latest news about the Crew and how you can help us give your Venturer the best possible program.

            While we understand most teens may not want parents in their face all the time and embarrassing them in front of their friends, we DO need your help, especially “behind the scenes”.  We need help with camping (especially from the ladies), chaperones for overnight activities, fundraisers and with driving to events.  Please fill out the forms and  turn them in if you can help us out.
